Getting lenses Painted?

9 years 9 months ago #188887 by I love cats
Does anyone know if Canon or Nikon companies will paint a lens any color you want? Like with HP when ordering laptops you can to a point custom design the style. Is it possible to order a lens a different color? If not directly from the company, then can we paint a lens? I have seen cameras being painted, just wondering if lenses can be also.

I would think if you could get the companies to paint a lens, it would be extremely expensive. I would also think if one could paint a camera, why not a lens.

You can do anything if your wallet is thick enough. But the short answer is no and a big "I wouldnt do that" on the painting your own lens. The reason is the overspray issues. It could get into the lens and now its junk. If you want a custom looking lens, maybe just try painting the hood or even sticker bombing it.
Here is onw that was wrapped in carbon fiber vinyl photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=1016710
The idea of sticker bombing something is just overlaying stickers until all the area is covered. they sell kits on ebay just for this (the stickers all match/compliment color wise) for around $12. Then follow up with some matte clear coat.

Unless your gonna leave your camera (sitting alone) in a
crowded airport, or for identifying it if you loose it,
why on earth would you want to "paint it" (say red)???

Cameras & lenses are black for a reason.
To distract reflected light.
I have no idea why Canon even makes white lenses. ...... ??? .....

I don't know if you could get Nikon or Canon to do it, but there's got to be people out there that would know how to paint something like a lens. It's probably expensive to have it professionally done. A google images search turns up plenty of custom painted lens hoods, but not so many custom painted lenses.

I have an older lens that could use a fresh coat of black paint, but I've seen the amount of work that goes into properly prepping a lens. I'll pass for now.
