Stock Photo Houses?

Can something tell me about the Stock Photo House business. I have a number of images from around the world that i'd like to turn into cash. Do stock photo houses buy them from you? Is there any money in it?

There are several types of "stock photo: businesses. Some offer photos are decent prices and some offer them for pennies, which the photographer hopes to make up in volume.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

Most of them require a minimum number of images usually at a minimum number of megapixels also, and the majority take a 50% or more cut of the sales, but remember they have people coming to them in droves looking for images, if you sell them privately how many could you expect to attract ? its worth researching

Stock photo houses usually work on a percentage basis, so much for you and so much for them. Usually they require you to furnish a number of images and require you to leave them exclusively with the house for a time specified by them. Some stock houses specialize in various subjects while others take anything they feel they can sell. Most only pay you when they sell one of your photos.

They are notoriously picky in what they accept as well. There can be no discernible trademarks in a photo (like Nike's swoosh or Adidas's 3 stripes) or people without accompanying release. They have to be a certain size, can't be over or underexposed, can't be post processed in any way. That's just for starters... I have several friends who do a good bit of stock shooting & they do quite well, but it's not for everyone...

Advertisers use the services of photostock houses when they have a client not willing to spend the money for a custom shoot. They seek a stock house that can show them various subjects in the field they requre., like a lady cooking, a man shaving, boats, airplanes, animals, babies, etc. Stock houses always work on a commission basis and, at times, they require you to leave the imiages with them for some period of time.
