Processing client payments with your iPhone?

12 years 1 month ago #203587 by Studio Queen
I was at a fine art museum last night and they were taking orders and processing using a iPhone. They swiped your card through this little square module that was plugged into the top of the iPhone. Then I signed with my finger. Anyone happen to know what this was?

I would like to see about getting and using for processing orders with my clients.

Thank you

The little device that you saw was probably from Squareup. How it works is that you sign up with Squareup and provide them with your bank information so that when you swipe a clients card the funds go directly to your account. The device itself costs roughly $10 depending where you buy it but Squareup gives you $10 when you sign up. So basically its FREE! Squareup does however charge a 2.75% transaction fee. But for the convenience that it provides I'd take that transaction fee any day. I will definitely be using that device once I start charging my future clients.

I don't think you necessarily need a device, you can probably get an app for whatever you currently have. It's not really free if they charge for every transaction. They probably offer the $10 item 'free' at no cost because the fees seem to be how they make their money.
