Craigslist photographer special - a new low

12 years 1 month ago #208706 by CatherineW
I meant to share this last week when I saw the ad on Craigslist. Where the photographer had posted they would photograph a 5 hour wedding at no cost.

Now I'm guessing either there is some scam to this or they are looking to make the money on the back end with the album sales. But seriously, this is getting ridiculous. No wonder why I get more bride and grooms hounding me for better price. It's photographers like this who are turning the industry up side down. :owned:

Ignore the fool, that photog will be long gone soon enough. There are enough weddings to go around, don't drop your standards OR prices because of one twit.....;)

Why so serious?

I sure wouldn't worry too much about it. Probably someone looking to break into the arena and get some practice. As soon as the clients get a whiff of that, they'll be looking elsewhere... unless they're (a) desperately poor (b) stupid.

I would not worry, there are people like that in every business.......

You will not be judged as a photographer by the pictures you take, but by the pictures you show.

Nothing's for free, he has his angle somewhere and I'm guessing he won't be successful at it.

There are some nutty people out there. I'd be curious to know what his catch is. Scam or back end. Wrong approach if you ask me.

Betcha "free" also means "no contract". Real bummer when the big day arrives but the photog is a no-show.

With the advent of Digital Camera's and the ease of use (Green Setting or Auto) it is very easy to take a descent photo! So everyone with a Digital Camera now thinks that they are photographers! I would ignore this person, trust me they will be out of the picture like many very soon! They will soon realize that it takes more than Auto and the Green Setting!

Its a total non issue, the people that would take this guy up on his offer are not the ones that would hire any of us, so let him fill his boots..

:agree:

The sayings "there's no such thing as a free lunch" and "there's a sucker born every minute" are old, old advice.

Actually I have seen ads on craigslist in my area posting the same thing. Offering portraits and weddings for free. Some state they are building their portfolio for the reason it's free. Some state this long BS ad, why pay for a photographer when you can get professional photos for free. etc.. I just laugh at these ads, and figure these photographers must have never photograph a wedding before, because if they did, they would never offer to do it for free.
