Money to be made from astrophotography?

12 years 2 weeks ago #208748 by Moossmann
I would love to get into astrophotography. I'm just about at the point of ordering a telescope and as you know these things aren't exactly inexpensive for something that is good. I was wondering if stock image sites buy astrophotography photos much? Or if there are any places that will be good photos.

:) I'm getting a telescope either way, but it would be nice to get the wife off my back if I could tell her that I could possibly make some money from this.

She nags me that I'm buying something that is worth more than her car. Which she got a brand new car last year and for the record her car is worth much more than this. But still, you get what I'm saying.

So can I make money at this?

Not really. There is already too much in the way of astro images available for free. About the only way you could write off some of the expense would be as a teaching tool, assuming you were teaching

So true. When you see the stuff from Hubble and ESO, (just two examples) available on line, you just can't compete with that.

I don't think so, not unless you can sell your images to a bunch of astro type magazines for their articles.

You will not be judged as a photographer by the pictures you take, but by the pictures you show.
