I agree with you. I have a monopod i hardly ever use (mainly because it's too bulky and if I'm gonna carry around something I might as well carry around my carbon tripod... weighs about the same). Ironically I have a small crappy monopod I use quite often. It's really portable and small. I use it for when I'm in the audience of a play/presentation and I can't bring a tripod in or whatever.
I might get a very small carbon travel monopod one day. To replace my little cheap piece of crap monopod.
As for the most useless thing in my bag. Set of grey card things I never use since I got my colorchecker passport.
