It's a toss up, I've ended up with some oddities buying darkroom supplies and they 'throw in' some extra stuff they want to get rid of (have gotten some good stuff that way too!). But between that and thrift store type finds I got a cheapie plastic panorama camera that came with an even cheezier little plastic tripod - with only two legs. I just got an Ultrablitz flash and now I can't remember which of my cameras it should work with... but at least figured out what size batteries it takes.

I've never used a tripod, or a monopod, but then I don't do landscapes, maybe if I did I'd find a need for one. Chances are if I set up one I'd just wander off away from it anyway.

How about posting some photos, to show us your perfectly steady technique...

One word for you: Tripod :toocrazy:

I always use my tripod when needed. I'm no pro, I just find myself not using my monopod and always using my tripod.

Good answer to a snarky comment.

I agree with you. I have a monopod i hardly ever use (mainly because it's too bulky and if I'm gonna carry around something I might as well carry around my carbon tripod... weighs about the same). Ironically I have a small crappy monopod I use quite often. It's really portable and small. I use it for when I'm in the audience of a play/presentation and I can't bring a tripod in or whatever.

I might get a very small carbon travel monopod one day. To replace my little cheap piece of crap monopod.

As for the most useless thing in my bag. Set of grey card things I never use since I got my colorchecker passport.

Monopod, never use it.

Monopods are for little old ladies who need boy scouts to help them cross the street and people with large lenses.

A Leica. It's a neat little camera, but it doesn't really take better pics than any other decent camera I own. Many are better suited for my photography, so it sits and gathers dust.

I have a cheap monopod that I never use for camera stabilization, but I do occasionally use it as a camera boom to get a higher angle of view. Like to raise the camera above crowds. It was $30, and takes up almost no room in my lighting gear duffel bag. I don't use it often, but when I need it it's $30 well spent. I have a lot of gear like that. I don't use it often, but when I need it I'm glad I have it.

I would say UV filters, but I stopped buying them long ago.

As unstable as you are, a monopod would be a great idea. :watching: Not only for the camera. jk

You guys are making me feel better about not getting a monopod. If any of you want to trade for a laser pointer I bought for giving me a focus point in the dark - I'll pay the shipping both ways... :woohoo:

I love my monopod. It's great in the field when a tripod is not practical (especially the long wildlife shots) and in low light at the hockey arena. Some places with a lot of foot traffic don't allow a tripod but the mono is OK.
Makes a good walking stick so it doesn't look like you need a cane

2x convertor followed by the monopod. If you consider computer equipment also, I'll have to throw in a Wacom tablet.

GorillaPod:

Using it as a table tripod is a pain cause the legs are difficult to get level... unless you use the level that i cant easily see under my camera

Using it the way its advertised... as in wraps around stuff... there never seems to be anything to wrap the legs around where i want to get the shot...

I dont believe i have ever actually used my gorillapod LOL yet ive carried it around the world for some reason:/

A cheap ring flash for macros, it does not produce enough light to do any good. I will just have to get a good one, one of these days.

Man, I must be cheap cause everything in my bag I use. I worked in photo stores and labs so I avoided the junky stuff. Well maybe the soft box for a speedlight, but I think I am going to need that soon.
