Facebook and Pictures

I had a question and it pertains to uploading pictures onto a site such as facebook. I was reading through some of the "Terms of Agreement" when you choose to upload pictures that you have to check off and it reads:

"When you post User Content to the Site, you authorize and direct us to make such copies thereof as we deem necessary in order to facilitate the posting and storage of the User Content on the Site. By posting User Content to any part of the Site, you automatically grant, and you represent and warrant that you have the right to grant, to the Company an irrevocable, perpetual, non-exclusive, transferable, fully paid, worldwide license (with the right to sublicense) to use, copy, publicly perform, publicly display, reformat, translate, excerpt (in whole or in part) and distribute such User Content for any purpose, commercial, advertising, or otherwise, on or in connection with the Site or the promotion thereof, to prepare derivative works of, or incorporate into other works, such User Content, and to grant and authorize sublicenses of the foregoing. You may remove your User Content from the Site at any time. If you choose to remove your User Content, the license granted above will automatically expire, however you acknowledge that the Company may retain archived copies of your User Content. Facebook does not assert any ownership over your User Content; rather, as between us and you, subject to the rights granted to us in these Terms, you retain full ownership of all of your User Content and any intellectual property rights or other proprietary rights associated with your User Content."

Does this mean that facebook can technically use my photos (if that qualifies as "user content" for whatever they want? Or am I looking at the wrong thing here?

Also, in reading they're copyright information they say that the user has the right to their "intellectual property." Is that just a fancy term for essentially anything that they own the right to (e.g. pictures, writings, other artwork)?

Thanks for the help guys, and I know its a lot of reading in this post, but it would be really helpful to know that I may be signing my pictures away!

You grant them the rights to use your work however you retain the rights to your work. You do not sign over copyright/intellectual property rights that would exclude you from selling or otherwise using your work commercially. That is my interpretation

Be careful about uploading pictures to facebook. I heard that your facebook friends, can go to like walmart where they can log into their facebook to print their photos and if you have them tagged in any of your photos, they can print your pictures too.

If you don't want others to print your pictures. Those that you tagged people in, you could watermark the pictures. I know people can remove watermarks, but if they go to walmart to print their own pictures and see the photos you tagged, they would probably think twice on printing your pictures since there is a watermark on them.
