20 years from now?

Excuse me if this has been a recent discussion, but if not, I'm like to know where everyone feels photography will be in 20 or 30 years. For instance: Do you think the equipment is becoming so good that you will no longer need artistic talent to become a professional? And that, in fact, you will no longer NEED a professional because the camera and after-the-fact software will do everything for you?

I haven't even been around for 20 years yet, so it's kinda hard to imagine 20 years in the future, but I would think there will always be a need for professionals. It's like my dad says - the computer was supposed to make a paperless office environment and instead, in alot of ways, it's just generated more paper. So if you think because of the digital camera and PhotoShop that everyone will be able to do away with the professionals and handle stuff for themselves, I don't agree. I think there will always be people who don't want to take pictures or don't have the time, or whatever.

Someone will have to "recognize" the value of an image but I think that #3d Cameras and images will be the norm and some processing will be simplified (just like we now have facial recognition, built in GPS, built in HDR which will get better). Wow. But 20 years in technology is a lifetime. Remember that Dick Tracy's radio watch seems impossible at the time.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

State-of-the-art technology is moving so fast these days that it's impossible to predict where we'll be in 20 or 30 years. Think back - or read about - where we were 30 years ago. Who would have guessed all the electronic and technological advances we'd take for granted today. It's fun to imagine where we might be, tho.

As for art, art will always be a part of human life. As photogrpahy advance the art will have to become more and more creative. Just because someone has a state-of-the-art piece of equipment does not mean he/she can be an artist. It takes a creative "bent" to do art. whether creativeness is a born skill or a learned skill - that's open for discussion. I think the advances in photography might help someone who is already an artist to do more creative work, but it will never take the place of the human 'artist soul.'
