Bluescreens still happen on Windows 7. You might have been lucky... but they are still all too common.

Got backup?

Actually, it's still there. Windows 8 will have a "friendlier" BSoD. :P

I use a external hard drive. I recently upgraded it for a second drive of 1TB (1,000GB) for about $100.00. My backup scheme consists of transferring an image onto my hard drive. I leave it on the memory stick until I run a backup off the computer to an external hard drive. I then store the external away from the primary computer. If I want to use that memory stick again I move it to my bag for future use.

I use two external HDs. One goes in a fireproof safe.

Ive never really trusted the term "fireproof". one fireproof could mean 10 minutes at 400 degrees... another could mean 60 minutes in 1500 degrees... and if your house or apartment burns down how long is the building likely to be on fire? it could be anywhere between 30minutes or hours. I guess its better than nothing... but id rather have my important data stored elsewhere...

I've been thinking about using Carbonite.com but wondering about security? The problem that I see, is that this becomes another extension for hackers to access my data.
