Interesting, but I don't see a threat. There was a time the player piano was going to destroy musicianship.....:)

Why so serious?

One part romantic baloney: "The one thing it doesn’t have that a photograph does is a connection to the real world."
And one part reactionary xenophobia: "...there is a good chance that a sixteen-year-old in Bangladesh will be able to produce marketable imagery for a fraction of the cost."

In short, I don't think too much of it.

Folks have been saying that technology is going to make the artist obsolete for centuries. The author makes the very common mistake of confusing the tools with the tool users. Software may replace the camera, or change it into something we don't recognize today, but it's not going to replace the creative mind of the craftsperson any time soon.

"A lot of photographers think that if they buy a better camera they'll be able to take better photographs. A better camera won't do a thing for you if you don't have anything in your head or in your heart." -Arnold Newman

It was interesting to read all the comments (not a quick task) and note how many called out the author and the site on it's bs.
Among the ones I liked were:
" He's not a novice but he's not that great of a photographer either. The DoF in the first image has glaring flaws. If it were me-- an amateur photographer, I'd trash it."
and
"Being a 3D motion graphics artist at a studio, and being a photographer on the side makes me think it's good (or at least decent) photographers who make good renders, not the other way around. The 3D artists here who don't take pictures rarely understand good lighting, composition etc."
and
"Ok, why don't you simulate a portrait of me. Or better yet, a long exposure of a small stream."

A better read than the article itself.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

Well in portraiture, neither 3d nor cheap labor abroad makes a lick of difference. Maybe cheap cameras do, people thinking they are photographers just because they bought something with such and such megapixels, but work speaks for itself, as do your personal relationships with your clients.

But sure, if your gig is shooting phones falling into water, you may be out of luck. Though isn't 3d rendering more expensive than paying a photographer? Why would you swap one for the other?

Lol really? They've been doing this since the 90s.

Since the 1890's. :)

I predict tech blog writers will be replaced by software before wedding photographers are. ;)
