Good reasons to never lend out your camera, even to family!

I have a Fuji HS20 that people can borrow, but I would never even let my Canon 30D go with anyone.

That is why I have a $85.00 point and shoot Canon. If you want to borrow my camera, you can borrow this one.

Lakergirl, I would add to the loan, a $85 deposit or any camera if your unsure about their experience. :pinch: A deposit to cover damages.

Not a chance, accidents do happen and something like this could break a friendship if the person who borrowed and damaged the camera doesn't have the cash to fix or replace if need be.

I wouldn't lend my camera to anybody except for my partner, and the only reason I'd let her use it is that she is an avid photographer and has her own gear so she knows how to use it look after it properly...I've worked too hard and waited too long to get the gear I have and wont chance anyone damaging it,it's bad enough if we were too drop or it or have something happen to it when we're using it without letting an inexperienced and careless person do something our gear. :(

Ii have never and would never lend out not even to my wife. I bought her a dslr lenses and so on, and I finally had to get her the same camera (40d) as mine because she bitched at me about why I had the better gear and she does not know what she is doing so she has way more camera then she will ever use :duel: Now I have 2 40d's and a 7d and she still wants to use my 7D we are on our way to MAui and I gave her the 30d told her not to take it on the beach packed her old Ti with its own lens and said that it was the only one allowed on the beach YEa we will see she has no clue on care at all. Never Never lend gear.

Lend a camera or anything of value to someone and your opening the doors to trouble

Bummer, especially that it's family. As Ben Franklin said, "Never a borrower nor a lender be."

I still remember the VERY first time I changed a lens (not my camera) I had no idea about dust. I took the lens off one camera, walked over to a table and got the new lens and walked back to the camera and put the new lens on. Someone who knew better said "Dust" and I was given a short lesson about not letting dust in a camera.

Now I have a slightly risky techique that lets me swap lenses super fast. I'm paranoid about dust.

I only know two people I would loan a camera to. Both of them are brother's and if they got so much as a scratch on it, they would give me back a new camera. But, they would never ask to borrow one in the first place!
