Will you ever charge tax on your images that you sell?

When are you supposed to collect tax when selling an image? Or do we need to even worry about this?

It may vary by state but it is taxable in Ohio.

I doubt the state care's who pays the tax so long as they get it. I had that situation years ago fishing in Wisconsin. I was at a small marina that rented boats and sold some food and a restaurant. the people had their kids working sometimes so they added the tax onto every product they sold and the kids didn't have to worry about it.

Every area has its own laws and rules, but if you are declaring your sales as income and claiming your expenses you should find out about sales tax, that could come back to bite you.. Where I live if your sales are under $30,000 than you do not have to collect sales tax, but once over the $30,000 than you collect the tax and send the government the about you collected minus the amount of tax you paid in buying items for your business..

You will not be judged as a photographer by the pictures you take, but by the pictures you show.

That sounds strange. Sales tax I thought was paid by consumer's when they bought something. But if the seller makes less than 30K a year the sales tax doesn't need paid? At the end of the year if you don't make the 30K are you required to refund the people that actually paid it seeing as your not obligated to now? Doesn't that have to be turned into someone at the state level at regular entravil's ?

You should check you own local rules......

Its been covered before, if you are going to operate a photography business, one of your expenses needs to be a tax accountant or attorney. Might save you some money, sure to save some headaches...... :(

Why so serious?
