Fresh start over, would you stick with what you had before?

I'm bored this morning and looking to cause some drama. I do enjoy my Nikon D7000, but got to shoot a Canon 5D Mark III that a friend has just purchased and must say, it's a nice camera. So, if you had to start over. Would you stick with the same brand as you have now?

I'm on the fence and leaning towards Canon.

Yes, I'd stay with Nikon. However, if you have doubts, go Canon. If you thinks its about gear, switch.... ;)

I have shot Canon for ages. Yet, when I was about to really upgrade from the 5dmii to the 5dmiii I seriously looked at Nikon. I had cheap glass that would easily be replaced and was looking to finally jumping into L glass, so I wanted to explore all my options. So I compared the D800 to the 5Dmiii. I was completely in the middle after shooting and playing with menus. Then I tried to change the focusing points, for me the Canon was much easier. That was my sway point. Something that small, yet it completely made my decision. Here is my thread on this topic from earlier this year, What would make you Switch?

Funny enough I shot with a photographer last night who had a D800 and a Fuji something that used Nikon glass, and he shot more with the Fuji cause it was easier and rarely used the D800. All due to his frustration with the focusing points. I haven't seen much of what he shot, but I wanted to laugh as he was more of a gear head than I am. And I am a huge gear head. For him it was about impressing others with his body or glass, but what spoke volumes was his lack of use of a major tool in his arsenal cause he hadn't mastered it yet. He was also shooting a paying client before I arrived. I am going to guess he used that Fuji instead of the Nikon body. He bragged that when the Nikon was right it was perfect, but when the shot goes wrong, it goes very wrong. That isn't a camera problem, that's a user issue. If you think making the switch is going to improve your work, it won't. What it may do, is alter your workflow and could be easier therefore improving work. Yet if you can't get what you want out of Nikon, Canon probably won't deliver the goods either.

When I do get frustrated with my Canon it is more likely because of the lens than the body. Which is not to say all Canon lenses are bad! Just that my budget confines me to budget level glass, and that is hit-and-miss for all brands. So my "ideal" choice would change back and forth, depending on the type of lens in play.

I am another that would stay with Nikon over switching. I like Nikons over the Canons in every way. The one thing that made me change to Nikon from Pentax was that Nikon like Pentax stayed with one mount across its line. I went to them due to the fact that Pentax dragged their happy butts in coming out with a Dslr.

The problem with the OP's comparison is also that you compared a crop sensor to a full frame. Was image quality an issue here? You don't discuss glass, or really anything of substance, so what, precisely, is attractive enough to cause consideration to switch brands?

FWIW, I've used a 5D, and really disliked it. Pretty much disliked everything about it.

I've handles a couple /canon's and they didn't feel right to me. Of course, if I had been shooting Canon's all these years, the Nikon wouldn't feel right to me. Look at photo's shot by people that really understand what they're doing and you won't be able to tell by looking which was with Nikon and which was with Canon or even which was Pentax. It's not the tool, it's the mechanic!

I have no problems with Canon and don't get into those brand wars. However I would stick with Nikon, just because I know the cameras pretty good and don't want to learn another system.

I would stick with Nikon, the only difference I would make is getting a better Nikon camera from the start. I love my D700, but I would have saved up and just gotten the D3s or D3x.

Unless I was to get a super good deal on another brand. I would stick with the same brand. Think about this... How long will it take you to relearn another camera? I don't know about you, I don't have much free time these days.

I agree with Ian, unless I'm getting super deal, I'm sticking with what I have.
