Question about selling prints and sales tax

If you subscribe to a printing service that is out of your state who gives you a portal to upload your photos for your clients to view and order prints. Do you still need to charge sales tax for the prints seeing the printing company is not in your state?

You order product for resale. Yes, you charge sales tax if photography products and services can be taxed in your jurisdiction. They are in mine, so I charge tax for everything I do.

Your relationship with the lab has nothing to do with your relationship with your customer. If you were printing your own in-house you would charge tax on the sale; this fact is of no relevance to the customer.

If the client is in your state, yes you need too. Regardless where the lab is located that is printing. If you want to triple check, I would suggest speaking with your CPA

Check with your State 'Sales Tax' office, you need a certificate from them to collect sales tax.

When in doubt, ask your CPA. You can get in big trouble if you don't pay attention to the laws governing your state.

Nikon D300: 24-70 2.8 | 70-200 2.8 VR |Sigma 150 2.8 | 50 1.4 | SB-800
