Are ISO and ASA the same?

Just to clarify, are these the same?

ISO - International Standards Org.
ASA - American Standards Assoc.

From what I'm getting, these are they same. But what I don't get, is why is ISO used more than ASA?

Yes, it was changed from American to International Standards; maybe people use the terms interchangeably so you're seeing/reading both but ISO is more recent and what's used currently. I have vintage cameras that use ASA/DIN which was a German standard used when those cameras were made; they're all standard measurements of light sensitivity.

As Sharon pointed out it is merely a change of the naming of the standard. Well there were minor tweaks to the film rating, but it was close enough that the measurement is pretty much the same.

Honestly, I have never heard of ASA. So this is news to me.
