Do you prefer to go into camera store or order from online?

Baydream wrote: My issue with "the rep" is that they are often biased based on the brand they use. I agree with getting the "feel" of the product but I also do a lot of outside research before buying. You can tell by the posts here that opinions vary on almost every brand, product and service. Also, consider whether the rep is selling on commission or is salaried.

I try to shop in stores but find that the people that work there know nothing about cameras!! so i just do my own research online and go from there..

I prefer online. I don't like dealing with stores. Always over crowded. I feel like I am being rushed when looking at a product.

Online does work for so many simply because there is no pressure, there are no operating hours and you can look all you want!

You can't pick it up and try it though.

I agree, there are trade offs if you buy online just as there are when you walk into a store

I need to touch and hold what I buy, so I check it out in the store and then buy where ever the price is best.

Well I depends on what Im getting. There is a good store in Sedona just south of me that their prices arent too far from B&H on bodies and some lenses, so I buy there a fair amount. Also they know me so I get a break on things. Then there are two stores in Phoenix I go to which are not that bad either. So my shopping is about 50/50. With local stores I like to be walking out with what I want now and not waiting for UPS.

Some local stores don't carry the high end stuff.

Anything to do with body, lens flash I buy in store. In Edmonton the store I frequent (McBain Camera) not only matches prices but if you have a problem you take it in and they ship it for you to the manufacturer under warranty. They also register the product for you.

My wife had a problem with her Tamron 18-270 VC sticking between 80 and 100 mm took it to the store, they sent it in and sure enough there was an issue which was promptly fixed and returned to us.

for some of the other things I will buy on line from reputable dealers. so let's put this one at 70/30 Brick and mortar to 30 online.
