What are you doing with your tripod when traveling?

I'm flying out of town tomorrow and my travel bag is full and doesn't have room for my tripod. Airlines charge $25 for each additional bag and I don't want to bring another bag just for my tripod if I don't have too. Can this be carried on, or will that consider this one of my carry on's? You are allowed 2 carry on's and I have two with out the tripod. So I'm really wondering if they are going to charge me for this. What are you doing with your tripod when traveling?

Well I see you are in Canada so I do not know what their security is like there. Here I believe that Fatherland Security would not allow it to go on board, they would class it as a potential weapon for hijacking. If you can transfer anything from a travel bag to a carry on to make enough room. then I would go that way. Or take a monopod, and put that in your travel bag. While I know they are not as good as a tripod, they are support, and they take a lot less space.

This will vary from country to country and per airline. Give your airline a call. I compacted my tripod and put it in my suitcase that I checked. My airline would have considered it an extra carry on otherwise. Not all tripods will compact small enough to make that possible, but that's what I had to do with mine.

I go out west a couple times a year and ship my tripod, as well as a few other things like knives, machetes, flashlights, etc, via UPS so its there when I arrive. When I'm ready to return home, I ship it back using the same method. Doesn't sound like you allowed enough time to do that......

Why so serious?
