Best location to photography sky line of Las Vegas?

We are taking a road trip in 3 weeks to Vegas and I would like to get some shots of the Vegas skyline at sunrise, peak day, sunset and twilight.

Where is the best vantage point for a shot like this?

Well to get a nice sunset shot Henderson is kind of good, but not that great. If you are up on the hill you have a fine unrestricted view of the whole downtown area, if you use longer glass. A variable up to 200mm will work. For a sunrise then the Summerlin area is kind of elevated to give you a nice view, and is west of downtown. Also variable glass again. But from Jones road you get a good view of the pyramid in the shot. I worked there for a year about 7, or 8 years ago, and remembered that Jones Rd had a nice view. Hopefully they have not totally developed the area where it has become obstructed. Vegas during the daytime is just plain oogly.

I've always thought doing a 360 panoramic from one of their high rise buildings would be cool there.

West of Vegas, out near the end of Flamingo Rd, if memory serves, just south of Arroyo golf course, are some hiking trails that will get you elevated and some good night views. You'll want to be out near rte 159 anyway, in the same area.....(Red Rock area)....

Why so serious?

One thing that is a must to visit is the neon light grave yard out there.  That is something you can visit during the day and it's full of gems to photograph.

Do they even allow cameras inside the casinos there?  With how sensitive some people are these days, I wouldn't be surprised if cameras are banned there.

There's no law against taking photos in casinos, not at least yet

I think what you are talking about is taking photos of people sitting down at gambling tables.  I think you are correct in the sense that you can't go up to a black jack table for example that has people sitting around and take photos of this.

To be honest, I'm not sure what you would want in terms of skyline shots.

1. While it feels like there are many highrises on the strip, they really are not that tall, so once you have gotten far enough away to capture the whole strip, they just fade into the surrounding landscape.
2. Great high location would be the stratosphere. Its gonna cost you dinner or 18.00 to get up to the top, but it has great views of the strip. Unfortunately, the big Foutainblu unfinished hotel sits in the middle of most of your views down the strip.
3. From west of the strip, a view from the suites at the Palms Place is really good.
4. From the south up the strip, I would recommend visiting MIXX at theHotel (which is really part of Mandalay Bay)
5. Beyond that, check out some of the "deal" sites and see if you can get a sunset helicopter ride that gives you a nice view of the strip and have a High ISO to minimize the shake.
6. IF you are still hell bent on taking in the strip from a terrestrial standpoint. Head north and west to Lone Mountain park. Hike up it and shoot away.

As to the neon boneyard, it is great. Great place to get some unique shots with that old vegas feel. But don't plan to bring in a model without paying for it. They charge you to actually have a shoot there. But regular visitors are fine.

While you're here make sure to spend some time down on East Freemont street. It's undergone some rennovations and the bars and clubs there are still cost effective enough not to kill your pocket and still trendy enough to be enjoyable. Names include...

Vanguard
The Commonwealth
Container Park
