Camera under $2400 with the quickest FPS?

I'm going to be buying a new camera and currently with Nikon, but might be interested moving to another brand.  I like photographing sports so want the quickest FPS I can get for under $2400.

Can you point me in the right direction please?

I think you'll find that they're all at 4-5 FPS in that price range. You might as well focus on glass.

Don't the Sony's have a quicker FPS?  I need to go look, I think so.

The a77 (crop sensor) is apparently 12 fps.

Yeh it has some restrictions in that mode though, mainly that you cannot control your shutter speed and it opens the aperture to the widest setting, yet 12fps is a nice compensation for the issues the translucent mirror gives you (less light and a bit of ghosting here and there).

Plus the buffer fills pretty quickly, but still, pretty impressive.

My 1Dx does the same (just sayin') without the camera forcing its choices on me.

Why not get a good second hand D3?

Wish I could afford that 7100, I would get it. I use a D5000 and it does a pretty good job but hard to get well focused photo's some times. Only want quicker fps to get more shots per second. I'd asked here about the D7000 and was told the 7100 was a better choice, better at focusing. I could live with 4fps if the camera could focus faster and better. I can get some decent stop action shots with my D70. Same focus problem and not enough res.

Nikon 1 V3. 20 frames per second with autofocus or 60 FPS with focus lock. If you don't need huge files, this will do it.

I'm looking at both used and new.  You just reminded me that I need to see what KEH has for used.

Honestly the D7000's AF was a huge disappointment for me. So yeh, I'd get a D7100 if I were in the market.
