Having a 70-200mm with no vibration reduction difficult to shoot with?

I found a really good deal on a used 70-200mm but I don't believe it has VR.  I have sent email to seller and waiting answer.  If this doesn't have VR, how tough will it be to shoot with it with no VR?

The rule of thumb is that, handheld, your slowest shutter speed is one over the focal length. So good technique means that, with that lens full out, you'll be shooting at 1/200s or faster.

A monopod would help, a tripod would be very good. Only you know your own skill level.

Thank you Gary!  I am watching already a monopod on eBay too.  Does it matter if my camera is a crop sensor vs full frame when shooting a lens like this?   Might be a dumb question, but seeing  you have been so helpful already, might as well ask it.

Thanks again!

AFAIK sensor size is irrelevant to the geometry involved in this.

Gary is correct. It is all in the proper technique when shooting with a long lens. I have shot at 300mm handheld with no VR. We used to do that in the good old days before it was in a lens.

No difficult than any other telephoto lens with available light, but then again when in doubt, use a tripod.

No VR OMG WTF.....

Hard NO....Different Yes.

I love my old Nikon 80-200mm 2.8 with no VR and I still like to get it out and have a play.
