Websites for selling your photos other than stock agencies?

Aside from stock agencies, are there any websites that are good for selling your photos on?

Only your own paid site with Zenfolio, Smugmug, or other such site. But it will still take you work to do that as well. You have to do things such as SEO work to get your site high enough in the search engine rankings to get the traffic. Stock sites to me are ripoffs. The only ones making money are the site owners.

So no easy meal tickets?

Well I had to ask, wasn't sure if there were any sites where people go and buy intermediate photographers work as art or for print.

You don't mention what kind of photography you wish to sell, 500px offers to sell your photos, and also 1X.com , me thinks. At the 500 site there is a choice of memberships, you can showcase your stuff and get a feel for its value. The competition though is extreme.....;)

Why so serious?

There are sites such as RedBubble & Imagekind that would get you a foot in the door... but again, competition is fierce, so a good marketing strategy is essential.

There are a lot of sites that seem to be what are often called 'image rights grab' sites, meaning they want rights to sell and relicense and sublicense users' photos from now til doomsday with a one time payment to the user - look at the Terms & Conditions. I have yet to see one I'd use. Many want users to price well below what would be the going rate, or agree to accept a low percentage of the sale price.

I think Joves is on the right track, you'd be better off to use a site where you control your own sales or licensing. If you want to do stock photography, that seems to have gotten to be challenging even for experienced stock photographers doing commercial work. There are stock agencies listed on the Photo District News website http://www.pdnonline.com   but I'd think you'd have to be really good to get accepted by an agency.

These days with the extreme popularity of photography, competition is going to be fierce regardless where you go.
