As the title ask, how are you keeping track of your technical notes while in the field?

I used to carry a small note pad in the film days, today I make no attempt to record data. EXIF is all I refer to and sometimes I even remember things....:P

Why so serious?

The cameras EXIF info will list most info you might need. Not like back in film days where you might carry around a notepad to notate camera setting in. If the EXIF info isn't what you are referring to, use the notepad feature of our smartphone (assuming you have one) to capture any other info you might want to record....

I use to try keeping note's, film days. I'd get home and have no idea what I'd wrote down. Then I got my Pentax 645 and it display's all that stuff right on the neg. EXIF data on the digital's. But I still try to keep note's on what each frame is, terrible time doing that.

I used to keep a small notebook with me when I was newer to photography, and when I first learned B&W darkroom work. I still do sometimes if for example the sun's in and out and the meter's fluctuating and I want to make sure I got a negative that isn't too thin or too dense.

When I've done sports I'd write down which new players assigned to the team I'd gotten a good picture of (in the minors they can be sent up or down a lot). Or if I needed to keep track of which sponsor signs I'd already done (those change throughout the season).

I don't keep notes usually if I'm just out and about taking photos just for fun or that I might use later as an art print, etc. I guess with enough years experience I don't feel a need to write down camera settings, etc. anymore. I'd probably write down anything that will help remind you what you did that you need to know.

EXIF plus small Moleskine notebook which is always with me. I make notes about filters, camera angles and sun position which metadata won't record.
