Would you paint ceiling and walls: grey or black?

Grey is more universal and can go either or correct?  Then again, black will keep any light from bouncing around.

I have a new studio space and trying to figure out what I want to do with the walls and ceiling this weekend.

Let me know what you think please.  Thanks!

Hey Danny,
I don't know for a studio but I painted our bedroom a dark grey with some light blocking blind & I can tell you if you want to get some decent sleep and probably miss your alarm for a week go dark grey! Anyways I think it could work, I wouldn't do everything in grey, accent colors are definitely needed with anything. Heres a close approximation of the color I have.

I'd "paint it black", all rooms, house and shed....but my wife wouldn't buy into it.  I settled for a black pick up truck......:)

Why so serious?

If you want to avoid a color cast, 18% gray.

Black is really dark.

I think it depends what you want to shoot in your studio and the size in comparison to your subjects.
If I did my own (small) studio I would paint it white with black curtains for the two side walls. Save on large reflectors.

Years ago, I tried black for a room I have.  Then moved to grey and that was much better.

Grey would be better in most instances, but I'd opt for pure white & use backdrop cloths where needed ( they have other uses besides backdrops...)

I tried going with the black wall, I thought it was too dark. I ended up going with the gray wall and that worked out very nice
