Nikon owner tempted to move to Canon 50mp

8 years 4 months ago #463491 by Roblane
Man, that Canon 5Ds R is looking pretty good.  I'm getting so tempted to move on over to Canon.  I want to print as large as I can and of course this camera is the big boy on the block.

Who's moved from one platform to another?

What will you do when Nikon comes out with a 52mp camera? There is always a newer, bigger, better camera. I've switched systems 4 times over the past 35 years. Did any of the switches give me a super boost in quality. Nope. Pick what makes you happy. Life is too short not to but just realize you're not going to see much difference. I doubt you are printing billboards. I personally don't want 50mp for now. The files just get too big and negligible difference will be seen in an 11x14 or 16x20 image.

I agree.
Nikon will have to trump that, because they are scared too many people think like you.
I an not imagine having to replace all my lenses which I know so well.

You didn't go with Nikon's "big boy", but you want to switch systems for Canon's? I suspect confusion at least. I say go for it, but be prepared it will not improve your photography....

Why so serious?

Although I am a Canon owner I would not want to have to buy all new lenses for a little bit of difference.

Well, you picked the best Canon.  So for now, that's as high as you can go.

Nikon Z6 | Nikon FM10 | Nikon D80 | Nikon 50mm f/1.8D | Nikon 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S VR | 35-105mm f/3.5 Macro | 80-200mm f/4.5 | SB600 | Pocket Wizard II

Sweet camera, just not excited about the price tag.  50MP is a lot though.  Seriously though, unless you printing, where would that come in handy?

You know Nikon will have something out soon that will trump this camera.  This came out what... a few months ago?  Could be any time when Nikon releases a new camera.

Killer camera, but the price is crazy.  I'd save money and invest in awesome telephoto lens.
