Tough to book = more demand and higher earnings?

I was speaking to another wedding photographer this morning.  She was telling that she purposely paints a picture to her clients that she is super busy and tough to schedule time with.  She's basically creating a false image of her success.  From what she shared with me, it's been working.  She has doubled her earnings with out working double.

What do you think of this method?

Getting BETTER one photo at a time!

Well, not the approach I would take.  However if that is what works for her, good for her.  I'm not going to judge.

Kind of my initial thoughts too.

It's not something I would do, but I suppose it's just another way to create an image. Having a successful photography business has a lot to do with marketing and the image you portray, so I guess she's found a good way to do that!

Completely wrong approach IMO.  Not a good model to  duplicate.

I don't know where to start with this, but no.  This person is giving you wrong advice.

Seems counterintuitive to me. If you have the time, why not book people? If someone tells me they're too busy to work for me, I'm hiring someone else!

That is such bad advise.  Amazing that people give such advice.  Shhhhh

Yikes. Not sure I believe that one. How does telling people you're too busy to work for them get you more business?!

It's perceived or artificial 'Im busy'.  Kind of like driving by a restaurant that has a line hanging out from it vs a restaurant that doesn't have any patrons in it.  I have a friend who is wired the same way and we have argued on this very discussion a number of times.
