Safety question when photo shoot at client house

7 years 11 months ago #479620 by Melissa Zui
These days I don't trust squat.  I have a client that wants me to photograph their family at their residence.  Do you think it would be weird to bring my husband as my assistant?  AKA security.

I seldom shoot solo, simply for safety reasons. If you're uncomfortable with it, take your hubby for sure. Better safe than sorry right?

Take your husband for sure! I would be extremely uncomfortable in that situation by myself.

When in doubt, go with your gut and bring backup.

All good advice, if you have questions about your safety.  Be smart about it, go prepared for the worst.

I always take someone with me whom I trust.......it is more of a necessity these days. It can also help put the client at ease to.

I don't know where you usually do shoots, but why make an exception for this client? Why can't they come to the location you usually use?

Maybe you picked up on something that's telling you this situation could be problematic. So trust your instincts and if your husband acts as your assistant give him something to do, even if it's handing you equipment etc. so there's a reason for him to be there even if it's just as a safety precaution.

Maybe think about having information on your website about photo shoots, if they're in studio or on location, so prospective clients know what to expect. I don't think I'd make an exception unless there was a worthwhile reason (family member who's medically fragile or can't get around much, etc.).

I've worked with kids and families and did home visits as part of my job. We partnered up with other staff who were also seeing the family as needed in neighborhoods where safety was a concern.

If you feel at all like you need to take your husband along, don't hesitate to do that. Better than getting yourself into who knows what kind of situation.

Better safe than sorry dear! As an older woman I would never go into a stranger's house alone, and I'd be even less inclined to do so if I were still a young lady. Be careful and make your husband go along.
