Under what conditions do you let someone use your camera?

I have one friend that I would ever allow the use of my equipment, and he would never ask because he has his own gear. To let you know how much I trust him I have allowed him to use a couple of my rifles for hunting, as he has allowed me to. Other than that, nobody uses any of my gear.

I have two friends that borrow my gear from time to time.  I have no issues because i know if anything happened they'd just replace anything lost or broken.

If they can't afford to replace it or responsible enough to own up to any accidents, it's not going to happen

Only my immediate family are allowed to do so. In particular my 3rd born daughter who has taken an interest in photography.

Other than that nope - I figure if someone needs a camera that bad either buy one or rent one.

Simple, there are no conditions for me.  Learned that lesson long ago.  Whether they can afford it or not, I don't want anyone messing around with the settings.

I did one time many years ago & regretted it. It was by best friend. Wound up damaging the shutter/film speed dial . He did pay to have it fixed but I have never loaned out any camera since then...

Maybe immediate family, but since they wouldn't know one end of a camera from the other I don't expect they'll ever ask! so easy to say I would. lol

If you're doing work in photography it seems like this would be loaning out equipment you need for your job. Maybe that's a way to approach it. If people ask you could give them an idea where to rent equipment or buy a p&s if they want to do more than use their phone.

I've learned the hard way.  Now just keep it simple and not let anyone use my camera.

Borrow to take away from under my eyes? No.

Borrow to take some shots while I am next to them? Fine.

Accidents happen and it's just a camera.  As the owner of this gear, we always seem to have a closer relationship than anyone that might borrow it.  So in short, no.  I keep it simple and don't lend my stuff out.

I've only let one person use my camera, and that was my brother.  Even still, I was a little reluctant.  It's only a camera, I get it.  However it's about the controls and messing them up.  I'm sure you know what I mean.
