Client requested shoot & burn to justify requested discount (need to read this!!)

I ticked off  a potential client today.  They gripped at my rates and then when she was trying to justify how I could accept her low offer (30% of what my normal rate is for wedding).  She goes "most photographers just shoot and throw the photos on a CD" then goes on saying "it's not like you are building a bridge, all you are doing is looking through a hole on your camera and snapping shots off, it's not rocket science.  I don't understand why you won't take a lower offer.  Wouldn't you rather have something, than nothing?".

This was the first time I got up from a meeting, and asked them to leave.  I indicated I wasn't the right photographer for them.  Then she got furious and stated, "your business is doomed, all the other photographers are accepting what they can get".  Then as she was walking away, her silent husband put his arm around her and said "we'll get someone better".  And then, she finishes off with "I didn't like that f'ing aXXhole anyway.".

LOL this story was too good not to share with you all today.  Boy what handful she must be.

I bet they'll end up with Uncle Bob taking the photos for them.

Good luck to that dude getting married to her.  Sounds like a real classy lady.

I hate the idea that some people have that photography is just pointing the camera and pressing a button... you're better off not having clients like that.

all you are doing is looking through a hole on your camera and snapping shots off, it's not rocket science.

LOL and cooking is just heating up food.   I wonder what she does for a living.

I would have done the same.  Things happen for a reason, I feel bad for the poor sap that takes on this client.  I can see this being a person that you do a stand up job and they still leave a negative review.

Craig's syndrome indeed. It's great how accessible photography has become, but unfortunately things like this happen more and more as a result. Any idiot with a camera thinks they can take incredible pictures, not understanding the time, effort, and patience it takes to learn how to do it. Tis a shame.
