Using filter step down rings

All my filters are 77mm and I was wondering if I get a filter step down rings.  What downside is there to using this set up on smaller lenses?  Do you get any vignetting when using step down rings?

Nope. Use them all the time. No problems.

+1 agree, you'll be fine.  Don't buy cheap, the threads might cross thread.

I just picked up one from ebay seller 3 months ago to use on my smaller lenses, it works very well.  No brand.  Mine was a cheapo, but it works as I suspect it should.

The only drawback is that you cannot use your lenses hood. In that case you just have to make sure the light does not strike the filter at bad angles. Other than that I also agree with everyone, they are as good as sliced bread. They save you a ton of money too. Which to me is the best part.
