Who's been to Thailand?

My wife just surprised me with a 2 week trip for my birthday gift.  We arrive August 3rd.  If you were there for 2 weeks, what are the top spots you would want to make sure you saw and photographed?

Can you rent cars there or are you renting car and driver?

If you only shot the temples only, that would keep you busy.  Be respectful, some are very strict with what you can and can't do.

As mentioned above, definitely visit the temples; specifically, Wat Phrae Kaeo (next to the National Palace) has amazing statues and buildings and Wat Arun (at sunrise and/or sunset) which is on the Chao Phraya River.  A river cruise is nice also but be sure to cover your mouth to avoid ingesting the water.  Don't miss visiting the Floating Market.  I would not suggest renting a car without a driver since they drive on the other side of the road (similar to Great Britain).  If you leave Bangkok, head north to Chiang Mai, a beautiful city in the mountains, or south to Phuket, a resort island with great beaches and amazing seafood.  Be careful if you ride a tuk-tuk.  They sometimes stop behind buses which like to belch very dark smoke.  Traffic is horrendous with cars, tuk-tuks, buses, motorcycles and sometimes animals sharing the streets.  Take care and keep your eyes open; avoid political protests and keep a low profile.  Military government is still in control following recent political turmoil.  One last place to visit--the Royal Barge House.  Amazing longboat photo opportunities.  Thailand is also a great place to buy sapphires; just be sure to go to legitimate stores! You'll definitely enjoy the two weeks.  Oh, I forgot to mention that the food is outstanding.

You'll want to hire a driver and car there.  Although riding around on scooters is a lot of fun.
