Have you experienced any issues from buying grey market goods?

I've been looking at some new lenses and possibly a new camera body (Nikon D5) and noticed that there are some big price differences in grey market pricing!

It's just the warranty I'm missing out on right?  I've even heard that some of the grey market retailers offer their own warranty.

Thoughts?

I wouldn't even bother, warranty, or at least having that peace of mind is more important to me.

Like many, I too have never used or needed a warranty.  However I wouldn't buy with out it.

I was strongly advised on numerous occasions to stand clear of grey market gear.  If you ever have issues, your in tough shape with grey market gear.  Also if you ever want to sell it, private party people don't want grey market gear which means you'll have to sell it much less than FMV.

I've read about the grey market stuff for a long time. I think the assumption is that the camera industry sell's junk oversea's. Shoot, I've never bought grey market but if the price was right I would. I don't see a lot of it but when I did the saving's wasn't that big, in which case go for USA stuff. I've never had to use the warranty on any camera gear I've bought!

This is an informative article:

Turns out B&H sells some grey market stuff, so if it's good enough for them it's good enough for me.

Not only has ALL of my digital equipment (40D, 17-85, 100-400L, 580EXII, 7D, 18-135, 7DII, BG-E16 Battery Grip and 15-85) been purchased 'grey market', but I have even tested the warranty (on the 18-135 which stopped working and was promptly replaced, by canon, with the newer STM version free of charge)...

Nothing wrong with grey market...well, in NZ anyway...
