DSLR not allowed in baseball game?

I forgot to post this up.  Since when can't you bring a DSLR into a baseball game?

2 weeks ago, I was told I couldn't bring my DSLR into the game I was going to see.  I didn't bring a bag of lenses and stuff, just camera and 70-200mm mounted on it.

Disappointed.

This started happening a few years ago in my experience. Depends on the level of play; local sports may allow bringing in cameras and/or telephoto lenses. Even high school sports are starting to set guidelines/restrictions.

I took photos for a local minor pro team for marketing so I know that teams work to protect their name, logo, player images, etc. Check with the team or the venue ahead of time; usually game day procedures and policies are on the websites.

Sharon would be correct.  This is more through mandate of Reuters and Getty's.  They don't want you taking shots that you could personally sell and dip into their market.

It's pure business.

+1 they want to make sure they are profiting off the pro taken shots.  When you take them, they can't benefit from them.

Most sporting events are that we these days.  Anything X length will get you asked to have your camera left outdoors or checked into their safeguard.

Many venues are strict on what cameras they permit

It won't be long before cell phones are banned at many events as well....

Why so serious?

Vote with your feet and stop attending any event that doesn't allow public photography...it's all about money anyway, it's your only way to make an impact...

Yeah, that's pretty much it.  These organizations want to be able to make the big bucks from the papers and magazines.  Can't do that when thousands of guest have same photos.  It's a chain reaction, when buyers have the same photos, they don't buy magazines that otherwise they might have bought.   Which means the big spenders won't be spending there either.

Have to agree with Tony's assessment here. It's all about money  & copyright issues.

I took a little Canon Rebel into a Colorado Rockies game without any issue a few years ago. I was watching the game last night and noticed a fan a couple rows back with a DSLR as well. So either some stadiums allow DSLRs or maybe we just got the attendant that didn't care.
