Why so many auto modes?

Okay, so if "auto modes" are the black sheep.  Why do most cameras have at least one mode that is a close cousin to 'Auto' mode?

Are manufactures just going with the flow, or are photographers just closet 'auto' users?

I shoot probably 75% in aperture priority. Auto mode? I say yes. I also say, "so what". I really don't care what's trendy.....

Why so serious?

About 80% of the time for me.  Aperture priority mode does nearly all I need.

Both.  Camera makers know their customers count features (whether they are needed or not).  And most camera buyers are not serious photographers, do not post on forums like this one, and do use Auto mode a lot.

:agree:
They pander to the general public, which means the cameras have to do most, or all of the work for the majority. Also most of them only shoot in Ken Rockwell image format as well, or Jpeg.
I shoot in Manual pretty much 100% of the time. My D300 has gone to Aperture I think twice a few years ago. But really who cares what you choose to do as long, as you enjoy what you are doing.
Though I do enjoy the Model Mode when I am shooting people.

I'd bet they're for people like me that are still learning the ropes and don't really have much of an idea of what they're doing. :)
