Any of you using SnapChat to market your photography business?

I barely use Facebook for my business.  These social networks are only going to be good if you have a huge audience on each.  If there's no grass, nothing needs to be mowed.

I don't have a photography business. But my first guess is that you don't need it. It's all hype for what I see.

Building up an email list, portfolio, blog or a facebook group seems a lot more useful.

You're way better off spending time on Instagram and Facebook. Maybe I'm old fashioned (which is a funny term to use with social media) but I just don't get Snapchat.

Instagram is where people go to share photos. Facebook is where you grow an audience that often times anchors to your network of friends, which can be very powerful.

If you think about how people use Snapchat, and correct me if I'm wrong, but it's all about selfies and their one on one relationships with their friends. It's where people go to think about themselves. So if you have something to market to them that's relevant to the selfish version of themselves, then I can see it working, but otherwise it might not be worth the effort.

Snapchat'ing your gigs as way to build awareness and social power.

But no, not using it.

There are tons of uses for Snapchat for marketing. Obviously it helps to have a big following, but every little bit helps. Check this out:

No, can't say I have.  Tried it, didn't care for it.

I wouldn't know how to use Snapchat if my life depended on it :)

:agree:

Isn't snapchat a kid's thing? I mean if you were to use it, who could you reach other than kids that don't want/can't afford a pro photographer? Seems like a waste to me.

Snapchat is actually a great way to grow your business. According to Social Media Examiner, there are 100,000,000 daily active users and over 400,000,000 snaps sent per day. If you even had 1 percent of that, you would still be harnessing the power of engaged marketing.

Well how exactly would you go about doing that? Simple; just start using it.

Every day.

Let people know on social media and your friends, family, quadripeds, (pardon the Ace Ventura joke), that you are posting daily on Snapchat. Then once you've grown your views on your story to a couple thousand people, then it's easy to get people to go check out other things like your website, etc.

It's the fastest growing social media platform on the internet today. Don't hate on it because it's unknown, just get in the fast car and start steering!

Couldn't have said it better myself. Key is to be active - a lot. Every day. Not just on SC but on other platforms as well (FB, Insta, etc.)
