Do you think we have seen the best that photography has to offer?

Interesting thought I had this morning.  When you look at photography and it's history.  Would you say in terms of huge leaps of innovation, have we seen the best it has to offer?

I would like to think not, that something truly amazing could be around the corner.   Something that really excites you about photography.  

What do you think?  I know, it's kind of a deep one.

It depends what you see as a great photo. Manipulation is great today, but that is not the shot. Some of the old masters did groundbreaking work. Are we not just reinventing the wheel?

Not even close! Just think of the advancements in technology in the last 15-20 years, then think about the possibilities 15-20 years from now. So exciting!

I feel like this question is exactly like 30 years ago when we thought human beings would never run any faster. Yet, among those who do it without PEDs, we are breaking that barrier every single year. 

Kudos to Usain Bolt.

But I believe the same goes for Photography. This art form doesn't have a right or wrong answer; only progress and learning. 

So when we think "Well are pictures just going to falter and we'll never do better than that one photo?" aren't we giving up on the passion that drives this machine in the first place?

You kidding?  Absolutely not.  I'm guessing something amazing is around the corner.  

Can you image cameras tapped into your actual eye sockets?  Taking photos of what you see?  I know it sounds a bit science fiction, but  you just never know.  Look at the robotics they are connecting to those with missing limbs.  Just never know.

I don't think anybody has topped some of ansel's work.  That being said, technology is making the creative process more intuitive. 
When the last candle has been blown out
and the last glass of champagne has been drunk
All that you are left with are the memories and the images-David Cooke.

I guess it also depends on your definition of photography.

I'm one of those for whom the initial 'click' is just the first step in creating an image, with a large PP component involved in getting the resulting image I was imagining...

Some agree with this, while others have a more purist outlook...expecting the initial capture to be the finished work.

Either way, advances in optics and technology will no doubt push the 'art' further in the future.
