Getting a tripod stable and close to the ground

7 years 10 months ago #484958 by Flying Pig
Even with my tripod at it's lowest level, my camera is 11" off the ground.  I want to get my camera more like 6" off the ground and stable.  I'm not to excited about buying a whole new tripod.  Have you tried one of those bean bag things?

I have a "bean bag thing" and its great for some uses like macro, using on a rock or a stump but limited.....If your tripod doesn't allow close to ground adjustment, you bought the wrong tripod.....

Do you find it's a pain to set up each time at the same height and angle?

Its actually easy. The camera/lens sits on the bag, my only issue is my old knees don't cooperate if I need to get on the ground, then back up.....:(

Is your center column not removable?

With my center column removed and then reversed, the camera can actually touch the ground (upside down, of course).

Bean bags are ok, the problem is they are bulky to carry around :(

Why not just remove the center column from your tripod and extend the legs out all the way?

Some of the "cheaper" tripods You cannot do that with.  Invest a good tripod. It'll pay it's weight in gold.
