Why not round camera sensors vs rectangle?

Lenses are round, yet sensors are rectangle.  Doesn't it make more sense to have circular sensor to match shape of lenses?  Would you get better use of sensor size and shape?

Photos are presented in rectangle for one. Why ask why?

Since any images would be cropped to round or square formats, all of the "extra" info get tossed anyway. Plus IQ/resolution is worse at the edges anyway.

Would never stick, in order to get square or rectangle photos too much of the image would need to be cropped.

Can you imagine if round photos were the norm?  LOL  that would make looking at your photos like looking through a port hole on a ship!

Sounds more like a headache if you ask me.  I'll stick with the rectangle.

Seriously?  This would be a grand mistake of huge levels.  Think of all the changes that would be needed in the industry.   Pass.
