Can Photography as an Art form be too vulgar?

7 years 9 months ago #489074 by stanjohnson193
I took a picture which I will only post here upon request as I can see how it could offend some due to its sexual content. It raised a question. This picture is very sexual in imagery but I don't fully mean for it to be sexual it's just an image that popped into my head so I took it. What do you think? Can photography/art be to vulgar? If there is a line between art and say... pornography where is it drawn?

Like a lot of other things, that is a subjective subject. One person may not think so, while another would.

Short of seeing the image, I couldn't possibly answer that. That said, this is a "Family Friendly" site & others may be offended.

If you aren't sure yourself, chances are someone will be offended.

Interesting.  It really depends on the photo.  What the subjects are doing, and so forth.  Tough to say with out seeing the image.  Sorry might not be big help.

In general - yes.  Sorry, might not be the answer you were hoping for.  IMO, when you have something like this, that goes against the grains of society acceptance.  It's already a delicate matter, if there is any sexual inclination, it doesn't take long for things to swing into vulgar.

Even when you're sure no one will be offended, someone will find a way to be. It's the world in which we live.

Yes, I think it can!
Although there is no clear definition where art stops and pornography starts; If I see a picture as pornographic it doesn't turn into art just because somebody says it is art......

:agree: pretty much my 2 cents on the subject as well.  But hey, if it floats your boat, go for it.

It all depends on context. As art, I don't think that there's such thing as being too vulgar.

But then again, art is subjective. Everyone has a different a opinion and it's important to be sensitive of that. For this particular forum, I think that it's best to stick to "family friendly" as Scott suggested.
