How to print to wood?

7 years 8 months ago #490491 by KENT MELTON
I saw another persons post here about printing on wood.  First off, I had no idea this was even possible.  Then I looked it up.  I'm just wondering, would you have say portraits or landscapes would look best on this sort of print?  I'm trying to figure out how to pitch this style to my clients.

Also are these the the better companies who print on wood?  (the last guy sent me this list)

Here's a pretty decent video that shows kind of how it works, a demo image and some other basics about laser etching / cutting.

When printed on bamboo, I like this the best IMO.

Printing on wood??  Hmmm, didn't know this was possible.  So you get the print and frame all in one!

Love the idea. But wouldn't it warp?

I like the look, but always been curious about how it holds up over time.  I guess it depends on the wood and how it's treated?

You'll want a white foundation in order to insure colors pop.  Otherwise the wood soaks up up the color.

I had bad experience with a print I got last year, the ink used was faded and to me, the image looked dull.

That's the problem, if the company printing it, skimps on the ink or the process in how they spray the ink is off, it's going to show poorly.

Not true, colors will pop if the write ink is used.  Well that and the right piece of wood.

I know this because my wife just order a number of wood prints and she researched the heck out of this process.

Is birch the only wood they print on?

Whatever direction you go you need to ask them about how they get the ink onto the wood. That and the quality of wood is the biggest challenge.
