Help me please. Which would you pick here?

I'm after a new glass and have a few bucks to spend.  If you could pick only one of these, which would you select?  1 - 85mm f/1.8 - least expensive here, however supposed to be good for portraits. 2 - 180mm f/2.8 - longer focal length, but would be good for nature3 - 70-200mm f/2.8 - probably my best choice because of the versatility?  Priced the most too.

So which of these would you pick?

What do you shoot?

Also, is that 180 f/2.8 the Sigma macro?

Why so serious?

70-200 hands down. It's a lot more versatile and will get used more than the other two by far.

Semi tough call.  However i would ultimately go with the 70-200mm as well

Nikon D700: 50mm, 14-24mm, 85mm, 105mm 70-200mm, 150-500mm (Sigma), SB-900

+1 agree.  However it all depends on what they are going to be shooting most.

Gripped Nikon D810 --- Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 --- Sigma 10-20mm f/4 --- Nikon 50mm f/1.4 --- SB600

Another vote for the 70-200. Just too versatile to pass up.

Well of these lenses really, to some degree have different purposes.  With out knowing what you intend to shoot with this lens, I'm going to say go with the 70-200mm.  It's a must have in most photographers camera bags.  The lens will get used ultimately a lot regardless of what you are shooting.

Canon 5D Mark II, 30D, 40D, 50 1.2L, 16-35 2.8L Mark II, 24-105 4L IS, 24-70 2.8L, 70-200 2.8L IS, 85 1.8, 4 x 580 EX(II)

To buy a fixed focal lens, I believe you must have a specific job waiting for it. Otherwise go for the versatility of a zoom.
