How are you getting models posed?

Are you showing the model examples or just going with the flow and coming up with poses on the fly?

Most models I've used required little direction.  Others I just guide them into place.  Kind of like showing them the rough 'look' or position I want them to be in.  From there let them do their thing.

Canon 7D w/grip, Canon 40D, Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS L Canon MPE 65mm f2.8 macro; Sigma 70-300mm f2.8; Sigma 150mm f2.8 macro; Sigma 8-16mm f4.5-5.6

Depends on the model.  Most cases I'll show them.  If not, I'll ask them if it's ok to touch them, then move them into position.

For the most part, professional models I've worked with need very little direction. Kids, families, and other "regular people" tend to need much more. If they just aren't giving me what I want I'll give them specific instructions to get them there, and then they usually have no trouble maintaining the flow of posing how I want.

I just coach them on how I want them positioned.

Communication is key. The more specific you can be concerning how you'd like to position the model, the morre successful and satisfied you'll be in the end.

Right - communication is key. It does take practice to perfect posing models, though. Ask your model if it's okay if you touch him/her and pose them yourself if you're seriously struggling.

I always ask for permission to touch them ahead of time.  Then when I want to get them into position, if they don't 100% move to how I want them to from verbal direction.  I'll let them know that I'm going to "move your elbow into place"  as example.

It's all about being very clear if you want to keep everyone feeling comfortable.

Well I show them the positions. If they do not get it right. I slap them with a bamboo cane, and yell NO! GET IT RIGHT! :silly:
