SD memory card problem

7 years 7 months ago #497194 by W Cage
My neighbor went shooting with me today.  We just got back to my house and plugged his card directly out of camera into my card reader and there are no photos!

I don't see any files at all on this card.  I'm at a lose here not even sure what to check.

What can I do?

I don't know the details of your SD memory card or card reader.  However, some card readers can't read certain SD cards.  For example, SDXC cards nay not be compatible with an SDHC card reader.  My suggestion is to check the format of the SD card (it should be noted on the card).  If your card reader is more than a couple of years old, you may need to replace it with one that reads newer SD card formats.  Normally, the card reader formats are listed on its packaging.

Try loading directly from the camera to computer

Nikon Z6 | Nikon FM10 | Nikon D80 | Nikon 50mm f/1.8D | Nikon 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S VR | 35-105mm f/3.5 Macro | 80-200mm f/4.5 | SB600 | Pocket Wizard II

:agree:
with both posts. It is most likely your reader. So put it back in the camera, and review the photos in the camera. If they do not show up in the camera then you have no images. Pretty simple.

+1 Upload from camera.  Was the card formatted prior?

Were you able to figure this out?  You could also trouble shot by checking another card.

I had this happen to me a couple years ago.  Turns out my card reader had a bad connection.  Going directly from the camera did the trick.

Were you ever able to solve your problem? I've had problems with card readers in the past and usually they root back to a faulty connection somewhere. If that's not doing the trick, there are a few free file recovery softwares out there.
