Shocking graph shows the camera industry collapse is coming?

Granted I found this chart on one of those rumor websites.  Still it's alarming.

What do you think?

Collapse? Adjustment, maybe. Personally, I don't feel the need to upgrade every two years now, I think my gear will last a long time. There is part of the reason, oversaturation....

Why so serious?

2012 was the year for interchangeable lens cameras.   However these numbers don't add up.  $13 million for this year??  Sounds hard to believe.

Nikon Z6 | Nikon FM10 | Nikon D80 | Nikon 50mm f/1.8D | Nikon 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S VR | 35-105mm f/3.5 Macro | 80-200mm f/4.5 | SB600 | Pocket Wizard II

That's not $13 million in revenue, that is indicating 13 million cameras sold.

Well if this had any merit, then this isn't good for the industry.

Point and shoots are tapering off, that's about it though.

All are tapering off, we had a glut in the 00's, cameras are improved much since then. People are keeping the same gear longer...

True, but look at this chart, it's referencing DSLR's too.  The chart doesn't look right from a number's stand point.  Not at least IMO.

I don't care what this chart shows, the camera industry isn't going to collapse.  Perhaps point and shoot cameras.  NOT "camera industry".  Title of this article is misleading IMO.

These dire predictions have always made me laugh when it comes to things dying out as a market. Do you remember when the computer gurus were stating that the PCI bus was going to be obsolete? Well it is still here, and has stayed while the new busses have died out. All that is happening is that people no longer have that I am cool because I shoot with a dslr now. Much of the boom in the dslr market was people who never would have had one, and to some extent never should of had one. But I am glad they did, because of the extra demand it made the manufacturers improve the tech faster, and most importantly the prices down. You have to look at what is happening in the market as a leveling off to where it should be, nothing more.

Two years ago I published an article about the market collapsing in 2017.

Smartphones are taking a huge segment of the market; the compact cameras segment.

This graphic looks overwhelming to the market.

What do you think? Is photography dying as we know it?

It's not dying, just evolving...

Evolving indeed...

But in some moment, all cameras will be compact and the results from DSLRs cameras will be achieved with an smartphone.

Is this crazy or what?
