Need to set up some sort of autoback up with local hard drive?

These days, I come back from shooting a few photos and I run the risk of messages saying my computer hard drive is nearly full, and prompting me to delete files.

Is there a way to set up one of those network hard drives that makes a back up of all none system files.  I can see the files in my computer, but only thumbnails.  If I want to use the file/image, I will need to double click or download it.  That way, all these space consuming files are off my computer.

What is needed to set up something like this?

Most backup software lets you choose which folders to back up and when to back them up. I have used "Second Copy" for several years now. I have it programmed to back up my images and documents to an external hard drive, then  programmed to back up the first external to a second external hard drive. I have 2 dupes plus the original that way.

Is this a desktop, or a laptop? With the desktop just put in a secondary HD that is preferably much larger. Then you transfer the whole mess over to it, and use your current drive as a slave. With a laptop get an external, and transfer over files to that, and use it as a secondary drive. Then I would get a secondary external for both desk&lap to use as a safely stored backup that is only used for backing up, and stored in a good fireproof safe. Storage is dirt cheap right now so go for it.
