Fake camera bodies being sold on market

7 years 2 months ago #512047 by Jacob1977
As I'm shopping around for a new camera, I'm reminded of an article I read last year about fake Nikon's floating around.  I can't recall the specifics and honestly find it hard to believe these could make their way into main retailers.  But the thought is there enough for me to want to ask here to see if this has become an issue.  Heck I work hard for my $$ and can't afford making an error on my purchase.

Are there fake camera bodies floating around still?

I haven't heard of any fake camera bodies.  Memories cards, yes.

Here's a thought, buy from a reputable dealer...and if the deal sounds too good to be true, it usually is....

Why so serious?

I would avoid the Gray markets

:agree: I was going to say the same thing.  When in doubt, run!

Never heard of fake camera bodies.  Although I'm not surprised.  I too remember reading about fake San Disk cards floating around.

The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

I obviously can't speak for every vendor out there, but I suspect any fakes out there are few and far between – nearly nonexistent in reputable camera markets.

There are few to no fake bodies, it was a rumor....

Agree rumor only.  I even tried finding some hoax'y photo to post here as a joke.  Nothing.

Haven't heard of this issue before, although I don't generally shoot Nikon...I'm sure you'll be fine as long as you use a trustworthy source for all of your camera purchases.

That was only a 'internet' rumor that had started

To my understanding, the majority of knock off camera bodies are sourced from grey market dealings. The safest way to avoid counterfeits is to try buying direct from the manufacturer or see the camera in person before putting down any money
