Should I sell my old gear on KEH or Craigslist?

7 years 3 months ago #512111 by Roman Omell
Last time I used Craigslist, I got buried in spammers and it was such a PITA to filter out the legit buyers.  Actually, then you have the lower ballers that were almost as bad.

Well I'm thinking buying some new gear and trading up in some of my older stuff.  I'm just not sure I'm going to get the best $$ from KEH.  The trade off, is I don't have to deal with the Craiglist nonsense.

How are you selling your old gear?

You answered you own question. Its tough to get different quotes (KEH, Adorama, B&H, etc) because they all want to see the gear and shipping will kill you. They will all give you an estimate based on your condition rating, so be honest. Shop the stuff around.
Last time I sold gear was on a couple forum marketplaces. A few years ago, the last time I used fleabay, they tried and failed to aid a scammer to burn me for my old D300. Nice try......List it in this sites market place and see what happens....

Why so serious?

I thought the shipping to KEH was covered on their dime?   Regarding fleabay, I agree.  I had a scammer who almost got me on a iPad I had sold a couple years ago.  Craigslist is almost as bad these days.

I would either  pick a company like KEH and just see what they quote you.

The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

KEH usually offers 40-50% of what you see them have an item advertised for sale. Sometimes, less if the product doesn't have much demand.

Yup, a couple years ago they offered me 425 bucks for my D700 in prime condition. I still have my D700....I've bought a couple lenses from KEH but they don't pay enough for me to even ask for a quote any more.....

Why so serious?

I haven't sold anything to KEH, but I have bought some glass from them and would highly recommend them.  Every lens I have picked up with a "LN" (Like new condition).  And every time my lens came in, I would swear it was brand new!

I'd stay away from Craigslist (I have used them without a problem though). Plus I have bought & sold to KEH. Like any other retailer, you will get less selling to them than to a private party. I'd suggest selling to a private party on a forum like this. You will get a bit more & have a bit less hassle...

They give free quotes, can't hurt to ask.  If low, sell else where.

I bought a 18-200mm lens from KEH last year.  Pleasant experience.
