What focal length for headshots

7 years 2 months ago #513303 by Scuba Mike
I have a gig coming up for an insurance company where they want nothing but head shots of all their employees.  Apparently they are going to set up all these on the wall in frames.  Would you use your 70-200mm @180mm to 200mm for something like this?

As I'm typing this I thought about needing to ask the client if they want the background blurred or sharp.  Hmmm that might determine what focal length I use here.

Anything will work, you'd probably be more comfy shooting a little farther away...and a blurred BG is no problem. Set up with a white wall behind and it won't matter....My pick would be a 70-200 or a 105 prime....

Why so serious?

Hey thanks for the input.  Would you shoot with the 70-200 opened up all the way? Towards the 200mm?

Speaking of which, does the image quality remain the same or is there an distortion if you get use either extreme of a lens?  Meaning 70mm or 200mm?

Nobody can really answer this without knowing the working distance you will have.

Nothing wrong with using 200mm, go for it.

200mm is going to work just fine.  Actually anything over 100mm IMO will be great.
