Do you trust TSA/baggage handlers when traveling with your camera gear?

I just read on someone's Facebook page that their Nikon D610 that they packed in their suit case got stolen.  Talk about a bummer.  Your going on holiday and some government or security employee, someone you should trust, steals something of great personal value to you.

How crappy is that?!

Heck no, when I travel, my gear is always with me.  I never travel with anything more than I can place in the overhead compartment.

Ha! I trust TSA as far a I can throw North America, one handed. They are the biggest thieves ever...next to Congress.....
Check nothing of value and nothing you would be upset losing.

Why so serious?

Sorry to say, NO.  I've heard so many horror stories.  It's a shame too, considering what we pay to travel.  So we pay, and we stand risk of having our personals gone though and stolen.

The only thing that gets checked into baggage is my tripod. Never, ever check cameras or lenses. EVER!!!

Same here, have you paid attention to the baggage handlers?

Sorry to say, but no.  To many bad experiences.  Not to mention the ones I've read about too.

I only ever pack clothing and toiletries in my checked bags... the camera gear (especially now that my camera body would cost $30K to replace) including my tripod stay with me in an overhead compartment.

I wouldn't trust the TSA with anything that looks like it would be worth a lot of money. It baffles me that anyone in their right mind would.

My brother in law is with TSA, and he has indicated some of the problems they have at the airport.  Believe me, you WANT your gear with you.
