Maternity photography ideas

6 years 10 months ago #529954 by Joan Barnes
2 days ago, I saw another maternity photo make it into the photo of the day here.  This got me looking at the other photos under that user.

My question here is a little bit off the top.

Can you duplicate a 'Look' that you see from someones photo and not have to worry about anything?

Sounds kind of a silly question, however IMO these days, you can't be careful enough!

Thanks for the help.

It would be silly to try and reproduce a photo into the details.
There's no copyright on a pose.
Your landscape might be somewhat different.
The mother-to-be will have a different body language.
The weather might be different.
The sun might not be in the same spot.
You material/dress/covering will flow differently.
Her facial expression will not be the same...

You cannot copyright an idea, only an instantiation of an idea. You can't patent an instantiation of an idea, which is why you can't patent a song, or a photograph.

You are free to copy a "look" all you want. Although I would encourage one to use it as inspiration, rather than trying to mimic. But that's just me.

I'm always finding inspiration with other peoples work, and then trying to create my version of it.  Nothing wrong with that!

Nope, you pretty much nailed it IMO.

I guess it depends on how far you're taking it. Drawing inspiration from the outfits, locations, poses, camera settings a person uses is totally fine.
