Thoughts on buying refurbished camera gear?

Depends on where you get one from & the model. I saved $400 on a D610 by buying refurb as opposed to new. I have never had an issue with any refurb camera, either within or past the warranty period. Normally, if there were to be an issue, it would likely present itself within the 90 day period unless you don't shoot much.

I would want at least a 6 month warranty

Then buy new for a year warranty. I will buy a new unit when I can, and there are times a new model doesn't save you that much over a refurbished.

Why so serious?

If from Nikon, I wouldn't mind.

It would have to be an amazing deal.  Although I rarely have needed it, I like to have the peace of mind of a full warranty. Something usually not found in refurbished gear.

I like having a warranty to much.  Most refurbish gear comes with 90 day warranty.  Your better off buying gear from www.keh.com and getting a 6 month warranty on their used gear.

Cameta Camera (on Long Island) adds their own warranty on top of Nikon's to bring the warranty period to one year on Nikon Refurbished gear...

So long as there's a decent warranty in place and everything is in working order, refurbished is fine by me.
